More CareerHub modules on the way!
Wednesday 4 June 2008

We are very pleased to announce that we have several further modules under development here at CareerHub headquarters in Brisbane. These on track to be released later in the year and will be available to be installed as optional modules on CareerHub. They include: Group SMS; Presentation Screening; Form and Survey Builder; and Work Integrated Learning functionalities. For further details please refer to the relevant sections below.

Group SMS

CareerHub already provides tools to search and email student by all sorts of criteria, or create groups according to special programs or any other self defined criteria. The Group SMS component will enable you to use all the same functionality as for email except you can communicate via SMS.

Students will be able to subscribe/ unsubscribe from the SMS functionality through the CareerHub interface as required by privacy laws. The Group SMS component requires you to have a separate account with an SMS broadcast provider.

Presentation Screening

The Presentation Screen is a stand-alone application that can be installed on workstations in any location on campus, and is designed to operate as either a screensaver or on a large presentation monitor. The Presentation Screening will draw data such as the latest jobs, events, news etc live from the CareerHub database so that it is always up-to-date.

The Presentation Screening can also have custom screens specific to your Careers Service which might contain your own logo and other information about services you provide. The RSS Feeds component is a prerequisite for the Presentation Screening.

Form and Survey Builder

The Form and Survey builder will have many uses and it is designed to put you in control of creating online forms. You can use any types of fields and data collection that you require through a simple form design interface. You will be able to create text areas, checkbox lists, selection lists radio buttons etc and also be able to specify validation criteria for the form fields.

Since CareerHub has the capacity to enforce students to authenticate using university credentials, we can ensure that students need to log in to complete forms. You can however enable forms to be accessed without authentication, or even place them directly integrated with the login process for CareerHub. Data collected using the Form Builder can be viewed as a report in CareerHub and downloaded directly to Excel for further reporting and analysis.

When used in combination with the site manager you will be able to add forms onto any page within your site managed through CareerHub. If you have the employer console and the formbuilder you will be able to add forms directly into pages in your Employer console. These could be anything from an employer survey to a Careers Fair enquiry form.

The form builder is a completely flexible tool which will be used stand-alone or in combination with many of our current and future optional components.

Work Integrated Learning

CareerHub is in constant development according to the needs and requests of our clients. Currently ‘work integrated learning’ programs are hot on the discussion list. Administrators of these programs are often working within faculties or schools and not in the Careers Service. These staff usually have a limited set of tools and are often using spreadsheets, home-grown desktop databases or simple paper trails. CareerHub is designed from the start to be an enterprise level application and with the default components contains many of the tools required to operate a WIL program.

CareerHub Version 2 has implemented new features and security infrastructures in preparation for our WIL management system. Workgroup functionality has already been implemented that allows any items added to CareerHub such as employers, jobs, events etc to be locked to members of a particular workgroup.

The WIL program will make use of the already built in features and add the following functionality:

  • Form Builder which enables an administrator to build any type of data capture form that is required as part of the program. This may range from job application forms to employer surveys or final reporting.
  • Content Manager which enables the WIL administrator to dynamically create web pages and add content as appropriate to the WIL program. Pages can be timed to appear/ disappear by date ranges and can contain forms built with the Form Builder.
  • Work-Flow Manager which empowers the WIL program manager define a conditional work flow consisting of actions attached to any items within CareerHub but will primarily consist of a series of forms built with the Form Builder. These forms will be implemented at defined stages in the workflow, or triggered according to user actions. The Workflow Manager will also give reporting on what stage each WIL participant has completed and a percentage base of users and where they are along the work-flow.

The advantages of integrating WIL in to CareerHub are many and obvious. Some of the advantages are itemised below:

  • Students can log in to one interface and access all information such as News, Info Sheets, Jobs, Events etc as listed by the Careers Service as well as all the other items added and locked to their WIL program by the WIL administrator.
  • Administrators from the Careers Service and WIL programs can use all the CRM functions within CareerHub so that relationships with employers can be shared and tracked across all participating sections of the Institution over many years.
  • CareerHub is a complete system that is supported by ongoing development with a client base of most of the universities in Australia and New Zealand. By purchasing CareerHub WIL components your investment will not be for a one-off local development that is not supported in the long-term by ‘project’ staffing.
  • CareerHub uses a corporate SQL database server which is a full enterprise level database system that will be backed up nightly and maintained as a corporate system. The database server can easily extend to hold decades of usage logging and content without impact on performance.
  • CareerHub provides full support and maintenance to your system that includes continual real-time monitoring and user-support. We also keep all your system under version control for disaster recovery and system upgrade testing.
